BALLINASLOE 19 BUCCANEERS 29
Buccaneers RFC U-14 Girls started Connacht with a hard-fought 29-19 win against arch-rivals at sun soaked Ballinasloe Rugby Club on Saturday morning. The hosts were dangerous especially on the break but Buccs matched them without the scores and were unlucky to be down 19-12 at half time.
This young Buccs team took the game to Ballinasloe from the second half kick-off, holding the home team scoreless while adding 3 tries with one conversion to win 29-19 against one of the fancied teams in Connacht Girls Rugby. It was a total team performance in the dead heat for this new team, who lined out yesterday with six from 2023/2024 U-14s at the core, four from last year’s U-12’s and five new players. Mila Fralkova with a powerful player of the match performance and new players Saoirse Trainor and TaraBella Linney fitted right in, each scoring tries on their debuts.
Tier 1 in U-14 is now 15-a-side and fully competitive so to put in two solid performances on consecutive weeks is very pleasing for the coaching team and all involved.
