SECONDS AWAY TO CONNEMARA IN LEAGUE SEMI-FINAL

BUCCANEERS SECONDS make the long journey West to Clifden on Sunday where they square up to serial winners Connemara in the Connacht Junior 1A League semi-final at the Monastery Field where the action kicks off at 2.30 p.m.

This mainly youthful Pirates crew have acquitted themselves extremely well this season, now in the top four playoffs in the league and also still in the hunt for Cup silverware. They gave a really good account of their progress when going down narrowly to the Blacks at this ground earlier in the season but were then perhaps a bit naive away to Creggs. But they have reached this semi-final on merit, despite having to play both of the title favourites away from home.

Sunday will be a massive challenge, especially as the Senior team have a Cup semi-final on the preceding afternoon. Here the Firsts will be minus their Academy contingent so the management and coaching team will have the tricky task of endeavouring to balance team selections so that both sides get a fair chance of progress. If this does not impact too greatly on the Seconds, then this spirited and enterprising group will put it up to Connemara.

They will appreciate too all the travelling support they can muster to the Monastery Field where a partisan crowd could be an influence.
