BUCCANEERS SECONDS 18 DUNMORE 27

BUCCANEERS SECONDS came up short in their Cawley Cup Pool A match at home to Dunmore on Saturday night with the visitors prevailing 27-18. Buccs will have been disappointed not to have at least secured a losing bonus point with indiscipline late in the contest granting penalties to the Galway side.

Andrew Evans opened the scoring with a home penalty but a converted try followed by a penalty pushed Dunmore 10-3 ahead. With the visitors’ fullback sin-binned for a high tackle, Buccs retorted and James Kelly powered over for a try which Evans converted to leave the sides level at half-time.

Both teams exchanged early second half penalties before Dunmore regained the initiative based on the input of their much bigger pack with a penalty followed by their second try to lead 21-13. A fine finish by Cameron Rooney-Digan for an unconverted try renewed home hopes but two late Dunmore penalties pushed the visitors out of range of a mainly youthful Buccs crew.
