NAAS 23 BUCCANEERS 19
Buccaneers U-20’s travelled with a young team to Forenaughts for their J.P.Fanagan Leinster League Premier 2 game against Naas on Sunday as many players have progressed to AIL level and we congratulate them on their achievements. We also congratulate outhalf Ruaidhri Fallon on his fantastic achievement of playing for Roscommon Senior County team in the FBD Connacht Final against Mayo on Friday night. We look forward to seeing him back in your Buccaneers jersey soon.
The game started very well for the young Buccs, Jim Connolly and John Dunican leading the forwards challenge and gaining valuable territory but Naas scored first leaving Buccs 7-0 down after 10 minutes. Captain Fionn McDonnell got his side’s first try while Naas kicked a penalty afterwards and Tom Shine got a try to hit the front to 10-12. A third try gave the Pirates a 19-10 advantage at half-time.
Naas held the midlanders scoreless in the second half whilst scoring two penalties and a try to win the game 23-19 with the Athlone lads securing a losing bonus point. We wish Alban Cepi well in his recovery from his injury. Next up for Buccs 20s is another away trip to Seapoint and another big challenge for this squad in transition.
