BUCCANEERS 38 LOUGHREA 24
BUCCANEERS U-17s continue to set the pace in the Connacht League following their 38-24 victory over Loughrea at Dubarry Park on Sunday. Buccs were quickly into their stride and built up a 21-3 halftime lead. But a couple of yellow cards and perhaps a too swift unloading from the bench resulted in Loughrea hauling themselves back into the contest with a pair of early second half tries.
The Athlonians regrouped, scoring five tries in total the pick of which was Sean Glennon’s tearaway effort, to stem the tide against gritty opponents. Andrew Henson, Kyle Mahon, Kailin Blessing and Stephen O’Connor were the other try scorers. Mahon’s flawless kicking helped steer the Pirates to this win with able crew members in Blessing, Kyle Byrne, Brian Doyle and Henson.
