DUBLIN UNIVERSITY 24 BUCCANEERS 11
Dublin University consolidated their second place in the J.P.Fanagan Leinster U-20 League Premier 2 Division when they outscored Buccaneers, who remain third, 24-11 at College Park, Dublin, on Sunday.
A disappointing final 10 minutes in a tight game saw Buccs miss two try scoring opportunities only for the students to score two late trys to seal a 24-11 victory in what was an enjoyable competitive close contest in the oldest rugby grounds in the country. The Shannonsiders did their club and region proud on the oldest rugby club pitch in the world as they won the physical contest all day. But the skillset
slickness of passing and general team cohesiveness of the Trinity side was the deciding factor on the scoreboard on the day.
The young Pirates gave their travelling support plenty to cheer about, even the team’s mascot Quinny the dog was excited in the secnd half when a possible upset away win looked like a possibility. The team and management will have to regroup for the rest of the season and learn to work harder as a team especially in on-pitch attacking decision making if they are to end their season on a high and salvage silverware. This looks likely with players returning to the squad.
Next game away to Wanderers on Sunday and the following Sunday
home to DLSP Eagles Dubarry Park with a celebration in The Bounty Bar afterwards. Cup campaign then to follow.
