FRIENDLY DOUBLE FOR YOUTHS

Buccaneers U-15s travelled to neighbours Birr and had a cracking game which they won 24-22 on an excellent pitch. Buccs travelled light on a fine St. Patrick’s morning and were slow getting into their stride. However, we are now playing an excellent brand of running rugby which has produced over 130 points in the last three games. Scores were being traded but an intercept by centre Tiernan Farrell gave Buccs a half-time advantage. The second half passed in the same manner until John Finnan took a quick penalty and strode through a bemused home defence to score the defining try. Best for Buccs were Thomas Herron, Sean O’Hara and Brian Rourke.

BUCCANEERS:- T Herron, C McCormack, P Sunny, A Murphy, S O’Hara, A Costello, C Donohue, M Fallon, S Lowe, E Carr, R O’Connor, B Rourke (captain), T Farrell, R de Ferriter, J Finnan, D Coffey and DL Herra.

Buccaneers U-16s travelled to high flyers Newbridge on St Patricks Day and came away with a narrow win. Buccs had not played a match for four weeks so needed the game time before taking on Ballinasloe next week in the Cup.
Buccs opened brightly and were 24-5 ahead at the half-time break. Buccs rang the changes in the second half with 10 substitutions and this disruption enabled Newbridge to close the gap to eventually finish with a 38-34 victory for the away side. A great run out with Jacob Bourke, Evin Claffey and Hugo McGowan catching the eye.

BUCCANEERS:- C West (captain), D Dullea, A Browne, E Claffey, P Bourke, N Kelly, R Colleran, T Coleman, J Walshe, H Hannon, O Egan, H McGowan, R Dolan, J Paul, A Connors, N Duffy, A Connors, J Bourke, S Nugent, Gustavus A Lefa, S Nitilescue and D Glennon.
