BUCCS U-13s QUALIFY FOR NEXT SUNDAY’S CUP FINAL

BUCCANEERS 15 GORT 13

BUCCANEERS overcame Gort 15-13 in a tight Bank of Ireland U-13 Cup semi-final replay contested at balmy Dubarry Park on Sunday. The young Buccs scored 2 tries to their opponents one as they advanced to a final meeting against Carrick-On-Shannon next Sunday. This game will kick-off at the Dexcom Stadium at 12 noon.

Jason Heneghan opened the scoring with a penalty for the homesters who followed this up with a Fergal Kelly try shortly afterwards. A Gort try narrowed Buccs lead to 8-5 at half-time. The Athlone boys edged further ahead with Robert Connors try converted by Heneghan but the Co. Galway side battled on, and reduced their arrears through a try and a penalty. Buccs defending remained resolute as they forged their 15-13 victory.

Buccs also won their quarter-final following a replay so will be battle-hardened for the joust against the Co. Leitrim lads in what is likely to be a finely balanced decider. Best of luck to all the players and their mentors!
