BUCCS FACE SLIGO IN FINAL HOME GAME
BUCCANEERS host Sligo in their final home Energia All-Ireland League fixture this season with this Division 2B Connacht derby kicking off in Dubarry Park on Saturday at 2.30 p.m.
The Yeats County men lie in fourth place on the league table and have a 50% win ratio. They are just a single point above Ulster clubs Rainey and Malone and so will be more than eager to repeat their home result against the Pirates to retain that position. Buccs have been frustratingly inconsistent this season with last weekend’s display away to UL Bohemian being unexpectedly poor. They could be higher up the leaderboard but have not closed out a number of winnable matches. Hopefully, Buccs will put on a competitive and winning show in front of their home supporters as the season winds down.
PRE-MATCH ON SATURDAY CELEBRATES ALL-IRELAND SUCCESS
The club is holding a pre-match function for the Sligo fixture at which the Athlone U-18 squad and mentors of 2000/1 will be celebrated. They were the first Athlone team to win an All-Ireland title overcoming Banbridge in the semi-final and then Thurles in the final on successive days. Marcus Madden captained the team that was coached by Jude Lennon with assistance from Charlie Couper. Current Senior team manager Karl Turley featured on the victorious team that included James Tormey, Sean Byrne, Conor O’Loughlin, Anthony Hughes and Buccaneers Womens coach Kieron Sloyan. All are welcome to come along and enjoy the occasion. Meal, wine and complimentary match day programme as well as free admission to the AIL game €35. Contact Geraldine at 0861732711 to book.
