BUCCANEERS 24 GALWAY BAY 26
Buccaneers U-14’s ‘yellow’ team played their first ever game against the recently formed Galway Bay RFC in Division 2 of the Connacht League.
Buccs gave debuts to second row Oisin O’Donohue and flanker Hugo Hannon and welcomed back Jimmy Walsh and full back Darragh Glennon who turned in a man of the match performance with brilliant defence allied to super attack.
The away team were a strong group with a powerful No.8 and capable back line. Buccs were ahead 24-19 in the final minute when, after a heavy tackle anticipating a whistle that never blew, the Buccs boys switched off allowing the visitors to score a try under the posts. The resultant conversion earned the westerners victory by two points.
This was a great performance by this fast-developing team with Owen Egan, Andrew Cotton and the aforementioned Glennon in the backs and Ryan Nagle, Walsh and James Kelly in the pack outstanding.
