C’est Magnifique IRELAND!
What a magnificent performance by Ireland in overcoming World Champions South Africa 13-8 in an absolutely breathless World Cup contest at Stade de France. It lived up to all the pre-match expectations and Ireland proved their No.1 world ranking with a superb squad contribution that included Buccaneers duo ROBBIE HENSHAW and FINLAY BEALHAM. The Springboks may rue missed placekicks but Ireland can point to a malfunctioning lineout in the early stages when they were in areas that Ireland would normally expect to score from. They got to terms with the Boks onslaught in a massively physical battle as they laid down a marker. You could not take your eyes off the contest that was savage in intensity, yet equally sporting as not a single card had to be produced by the referee.
On this performance, Ireland can go all the way ….. but don’t rule out South Africa either. What odds they will be the final pairing?
