Buccaneers U-16s travelled to Mullingar on a foggy frosty Sunday morning to play the local team. Buccs started strongly but made too many mistakes in the red zone. A half time score of 7-7 was fair enough with both teams making errors in an attempt to throw the ball around. Buccs were guilty of ill-discipline and poor ball retention and went 25-22 behind before eventually conceding 2 more tries.
Hopefully, this will be a good wake-up call before the league semi-final next week end. Best for Buccs were John Paul and Senan Nugent in the backs and Hugo Hannon, A Browne and Jack Ryan in the forwards.

Buccaneers U-15s travelled to old adversaries Corinthians on Saturday. Buccs started well against last year’s league and cup winners but were held scoreless against the home team’s busy defence. Despite owning the ball for 15 minutes it was the home team who scored first and then again before half time.
Buccs were playing downhill for the second stanza and were quietly confident of a win if they could score first in this half. Captain Brian O’Rourke was leading his troops from the front and he got most support from Myles Fallon and Sean O’Hara. The second half was much like the first with a large crowd of Buccs supporters getting great value as the boys put in their best performance for a couple of years. Tiernan Farrell, Cillian Donohue and Elliot Friel were outstanding in the backs but alas it was not to be for Buccs despite showing great heart and determination. When the exemplary referee blew his final whistle a dejected Buccs team was left with only the knowledge that they gave everything.
