BUCCANEERS 14 GALWAY BAY 15

Buccaneers U-14s hosted Galway Bay in the Connacht League Division 1 on Saturday. A strong crossfield breeze made conditions difficult for the players. The visitors made the perfect start with a try 3 minutes into play. After sustained pressure by the home side, Robert Connor crossed the line for a try in the 18th minute. This was converted by Corey Kelly from a tight angle to leave Buccaneers up by 2 at half time.

The second half kicked off with a converted try by Galway Bay. Buccaneers regrouped in impressive fashion and, after a well worked move, scored a try by Aaron Costello under the posts converted by Kelly. Soon after, Galway Bay were awarded a penalty, which they scored to lead by 1 point. Buccaneers showed immense determination, piling on the pressure in the last 5 minutes. With the final play Buccaneers were awarded a penalty in front of the posts and elected to kick. With the strong winds placement of the ball on the tee proved difficult and the referee decided, rather harshly given conditions, that too much time had been taken and blew for full time. Buccaneers can rightly feel very unlucky not to come away with a win.
