CORRIB 22 BUCCANEERS 19
Buccaneers U-15 ‘yellow’ team travelled to Headford to play the home club Corrib in the Connacht Plate semi-final on Saturday. The squad was short players due to injuries and 23 players needed for Cup final duty the following day.
Nevertheless, these young lads produced their best performance of the season, ably led by captain Alex Connaughton who had an outstanding game. Oisin Gannon also played the game of his life along with Niall O’Donoghue in the backs.
After a ding-dong 60 minutes Buccs went ahead with a Darragh Campbell try but, unfortunately let Corrib score when the kick-off was fumbled. Still the Buccs boys came back and earned a penalty that could have won the game.
However, a narrow miss was followed by the final whistle and the Athlonians were left to reflect on an undeserved narrow loss after a superb performance by this hardworking ‘yellow’ team.
