BUCCANEERS 12 DUNMORE 62
BUCCANEERS shipped a heavy 62-12 Bank of Ireland Connacht Junior 1A League defeat to Dunmore under the Dubarry Park floodlights on Saturday night. This was a most disappointing display by the club’s second string that, on paper, should really have been much more competitive.
On a lovely cool evening scores were coming fast and plenty in the opening quarter with Conor Burns setting Dunmore on their way with a 5th minute try. Buccs responded swiftly with Donnacha Connolly breaking away from the ten metre line but the east Galway side had a try bonus point in the bag by the 22nd minute. Burns got his second, Gert Coetzee the third and Bradley Hughes the fourth touchdown. They were helped significantly by very poor home defending particularly powder puff tackling.
Johannes Duvange and Euan Doherty made it six tries for the visitors by half-time at which stage they led 36-5. Duvange notched his second shortly after the change of ends before former Ireland Sevens player Josh Rowland stretched the Dunmore advantage to 48-5. Dylan Bolger showed good desire to power over for a home try converted by Ethan Friel.
But Dunmore, with a trio of South Africans in their starting XV, added another brace via Gary Immelman and Jamie Coen for a comprehensive 62-12 victory that leaves the clubs at opposite ends of the league table.
