BUCCANEERS 31 MONIVEA 0
BUCCANEERS opened their Connacht U-13 Cup campaign with a clearcut 31-0 victory over Monivea at Dubarry Park on Saturday morning. The visitors made the better start but once the home boys got to grips with them the outcome was rarely in doubt. Buccs settled after captain of the day Jack Gaynor’s opening try and Michael Union weaved his way in for a second try soon afterwards. Eoghan Silke’s conversion gave the Pirates a 12-0 halftime lead.
The young Buccs dominated after the change of ends with prop Adam Chatterton making some thundering breaks and fly-half Ronan Bourke keeping the team ticking along nicely. Union’s pace earned him a second try before Cillian Coughlan added another. Battling Monivea could not deal with “storm Eoghany” as Silke put in some strong carrying from No.8. His immense contribution was rewarded when he powered in for Buccaneers fifth try, and he also scored three conversions, as Buccs made a promising start to the Cup campaign on a 31-0 scoreline.
