BUCCS AWAY TO CASHEL

BUCCS AWAY TO CASHEL

BUCCANEERS make another trip to Tipp when they face Cashel in their final Energia All-Ireland League fixture of the season with this Division 2A tie kicking off at 2.30 p.m. at the Spa Field. Buccs scored a dramatic 18-16 win in Athlone when the teams met in the opening round of the AIL, Ruadhri Fallon’s final move try edging the spoils the Pirates way. Buccs had played very well in the first half but Cashel got on top following the change of ends, helped by a hat-trick of yellow cards incurred by the hosts!

The High Kings have a formidable pack with Fearghall O’Donoghue and Mikey Wilson being key figures there. Stephen McMahon and Josh Pickering are smart operators in the backline where the vastly experienced Darragh Lyons pulls the strings. Both teams may be cagey about revealing their full hand ahead of their forthcoming play-off clash and any players carrying knocks will surely be rested ahead of that match. Nevertheless, both teams will be keen to win and put doubts in the minds of the other. It’s a tricky one to call but it should be an absorbing contest nevertheless. Incidentally Ballymena’s final fixture pits them against leaders Queen’s University so, remarkably, all four teams currently in the play-off berths face another in their final league fixtures!
