BUCCS HOME TO RAINEY ON SATURDAY
BUCCANEERS welcome Rainey to Dubarry Park for round 8 of the Energia All-Ireland League Division 2B season. This fixture, our final home game of 2025, is sponsored by RUSSELL BRENNAN KEANE.
Rainey, after losing their four opening fixtures, have subsequently won the following three matches so will arrive with confidence. They sit just above the Pirates on the league table and will be eager to remain there so they will surely be fired up. They have a strong scrum and Andrew Brown, Scott McLean and the McCuskers are familiar names when the teams last met at a time when the Magherafelt club had the lengthier moniker of Rainey Old Boys.
Meanwhile, Buccs recorded a fine victory away to another Ulster side, Malone, last weekend and will be keen to build on that performance. Their young squad is improving steadily and confidence is returning after a couple of torrid seasons. The Pirates discipline was noticeably improved at Malone and, if they play to their collective potential, then a first home win of this campaign is achievable.
We extend a warm ‘Cead Mile Failte’ to visiting President Arnie McClean, captain Michael McCusker, players, officials and supporters. We welcome representatives of our title sponsors MICHAEL MOORE CAR SALES and match sponsors RUSSELL BRENNAN KEANE. Thanks too to all our other patrons without whom the club could not operate.
We welcome the match officials and remind all present to “Respect Our Game”. Meanwhile 20% of home gates this season will be donated to charities with St. Hilda’s Special School being the choice today.
MARTIN STAUNTON
Rainey are not the only “old boys” here on Saturday as Buccaneers honour Martin Staunton for his sterling service to the club, both on and off the field of play over numerous seasons. The acknowledgement of ‘Mairt’s’ contribution is richly merited.
