BUCCANEERS are home to UL Bohemian on Saturday when the sides meet in the Energian All-Ireland League Division 2A at Dubarry Park. Kick off is 2.30 p.m. This is a game that the midlanders must target for a win as home victories are crucial to a side’s well being. UL Bohs will arrive in upbeat mood following their first win of the campaign when they recorded a 21-18 victory over Nenagh Ormond on Friday night.
The Red Robins have a number of Munster A players in their squad including hooker Kieran O’Shea and full back Jamie Shanahan. Harry Byrne is an exciting prospect in the centre while Robert Bourke provides guile and experience at stand-off. Darragh Frawley captains the squad coached by Tom Hayes. Philip Poillot, Hugh Kelleher and Niall Queally are able operators in the Limerick side’s pack.
Buccaneers have a lengthy injury list currently with Shane Layden and Torin Rensford still a few weeks from returning to action. However, Callum Boland and Darragh Corbett should be available this weekend to strengthen the backline where Corey Reid remains a doubt. The absences of Sean Masterson and Conor Kenny were felt against a sturdy MU Barnhall pack with Buccs youthful forwards finding the going tough. Hopefully, Rory Grenham and Oisin Kiernan could be fit to bolster the endeavours of Martin Staunton, Evan Galvin, Ruairi Byrne and Christian Maulaulau for Saturday’s joust.
Meanwhile three recent ex-Buccs players cast off by Connacht — Conor McKeon, Peter Claffey and Saba Meunargia — are all featuring for rejuvenated Terenure College in Division 1A. Most frustrating for the Pirates.
