BUCCS THIRDS IN LEAGUE FINAL ON SUNDAY

BUCCANEERS THIRDS square up to their CORINTHIANS counterparts in the Connacht Junior 2 League final on Sunday. This decider will be played at Loughrea RFC with a 2.30 p.m. kick-off and promises to be a keenly contested affair.

Buccs scored a comprehensive 31-14 victory over Sunday’s opponents in their final league outing which secured their place in the final. They built this win on an impressive first half display which saw them 24-0 ahead at the interval. The quality of their performance dropped after the change of ends and Corinthians came much more into the contest. That cannot be allowed to reoccur on Sunday.

Following that defeat the Tribesmen then faced city rivals Galwegians in the semi-final which they edged by a single point 24-23. They outscored the light blues by 4 tries to 2 and are likely to be a lot better organised and stronger than when they lost at Dubarry Park.
But Buccs have some very experienced operators and depth in their squad including Rory Grenham, Sean Byrne, Anthony Hughes, Trevor Thompson and Garreth Halligan in the pack and David Fagan and Alex Hayman in their backline. James Downes and Harry Hughes are a lively duo who can poach tries while Darren Costello is a consistent placekicker. Declan Brady, George Kenny and Keith Grehan can be counted on in the forwards battles.

Overall, the Pirates look to have more options but will need to put in a sustained and disciplined effort to capture this title.
