BUCCS WIN U-14 PLATE FINAL

BUCCANEERS 31 GALWAY BAY/OUGHTERARD/CONNEMARA 10

BUCCANEERS enjoyed a clearcut 31-10 victory over amalgamation side Galway Bay/Oughterard/Connemara in the Connacht U-14 Plate final contested at the Castle Grounds, Monivea, on Friday evening. The young Buccs outscored their opponents by 5 tries to 2.

It’s been a long time since Buccs were knocked out of the Cup by the eventual winners Corinthians. However, this resilient squad have kept going and, with a good win in Dunmore, qualified for the final against a three-club amalgamation of Galway Bay, Oughterard & Connemara. Monivea RFC was the venue and, as the sun shone down on the foundations of the new clubhouse, a large number of spectators from all clubs were treated to a fine open game.

Buccs started well playing with the elements and scored early on against a Galway side who had some well-built forwards and backs and were giving the midlanders a hard time with some vigorous counter rucking. But Buccs had too much in the back line with Darragh Murray pulling the strings and making room for the talented Elliot Friel and Conor Flynn to show their skills. Donnacha O’Dwyer was a rock at full back and never put a foot wrong. In the pack Sean O’Hara had a fine game in the line out and Tomas Herron and Brian Bourke were always conspicuous.

Buccaneers ability to run and pass at speed was too much for GBOC and the final score was 31-10 with tries from Murray, Friel, Bourke, Ronan Tynan and Eoin Carr. Congratulations to the whole panel and helpers.
