SECONDS CUP GAME TOPS BUSY FIXTURES LIST THIS WEEKEND

BUCCANEERS SECONDS top a hectic weekend of fixtures for the club when they face a Connacht Junior Cup derby clash away to Ballinasloe on Sunday. This quarter-final, which will be a dress rehearsal for the teams Junior 1B League decider the following weekend, kicks off at 2 p.m. in Moher Road. Buccs had a narrow home win in the league over their neighbours early in the season and Sunday’s duel is likely to be just as tight. Underfoot conditions will likely add to the challenges but if the Pirates can spread the ball they have the wherewithal to edge what will surely be a keen battle.

Buccs U-20s are also on the road, heading in the opposite direction to square up to Dublin University in the J.P.Fanagan Leinster Premier League 2 at College Park. The Students are in a fine run of form, being pipped by leaders Corinthians by a single point before winning handily against DLSP. These results have moved them up to second place. Meanwhile, third placed Buccs match away to leaders Corinthians last Sunday was called off due to pitch being unplayable. As the westerners did not have an alternative venue lined up and declined the Pirates offer to play the game in Dubarry Park, the rescheduled fixture should surely be refixed for Athlone?

Many Youths teams are in Connacht Cup action next weekend, as follows:-
U-14s home to Sligo on Sunday, kick-off 12.30 p.m; note change of day and venue.
U-15s home to Ballinrobe on Sunday, kick-off 11.30 a.m; day and kick-off changed.
U-17s away to Ballina on Sunday, 12 noon kick-off.
U-18.5s home to Tuam/Dunmore on Sunday, 1 p.m. kick-off.

Two Girls teams are also in Cup action with the U-14s home to Corinthians on Saturday and the U-18.5s away to Ballinrobe on Sunday; both games at 12 noon.

And, finally, there is also a Minis Blitz on Sunday. Stewarding will be required especially on Sunday.
