Congratulations to Westmeath Senior footballers on winning the inaugural Tailteann Cup with a fine victory over favourites Cavan. Kieran Martin’s spectacular goal proved the key score in their 2-14 to 1-13 win with local AIB staff member Lorcan Dolan notching the first goal. Westmeath play an entertaining brand of football and nice to see it rewarded with a fine trophy. The squad has improved immeasurably due to the extra matches as they progressed through the competition. There was a large turnout when the players brought the Cup to The Bounty on Monday evening when the players obliged with selfies and autographs for the mainly young supporters for over an hour. Of course, team manager Jack Cooney would have been in familiar surroundings having played with Buccaneers for a number of seasons. Again, massive congrats to the men in maroon.
