DOUBLE BY U-15’s

Buccaneers U-15’s had a great weekend of rugby with the two teams having big wins. On Saturday they travelled to Loughrea for a Connacht Division 2 game against the home team. Buccs started well but a counter ruck gave the opposition possession which they used with a series of bullocking runs which the Athlone boys couldn’t contain, resulting in a 7 pointer. But Buccs got to grips with the home pack, rucking and tackling lower and moving the ball away from the bigger opposition forwards, resulting in a series of good scores emphasising how much this side has improved. The best was probably from Diarmuid Murtagh who danced his way like Jordan Larmour past a number of floundering defenders. Although Buccs brought on 11 subs the second half followed the same pattern with the young Pirates continuity and handling skills proving too much for the home side and eventually running out 37 -7 winners. Finn Duffy led his team well and got the most support from Sean Doyle, Sean McCarthy, Abu and Brian Mulvihill.

On Sunday  Buccs played the long-awaited return fixture against Creggs and it didn’t take long for the Buccs boys to notch up a score. Although the Creggs lads never gave up they were being outclassed by a Buccs side who proved reluctant to give away possession and they totalled 5 tries in a breathtaking first-half display of running rugby. The second half was more of the same as Buccs emptied the bench but continued to play the continuity game, mixed in with some good structured play and allied to crisp handling, enabled a further four tries to be scored. Buccs discipline held to the end, denying the opposition any chance to open their account. Final score 49-0 to Buccs. Oisin Flynn has been an inspirational captain since his return and he was best supported by Park Egan, Fionn Lyons, James Clarke and Ryan Gahan.
