GALWEGIANS SECONDS 47 BUCCANEERS SECONDS 36

It rained rain and tries in the Bank of Ireland Connacht Senior Seconds Cup tie also played at Crowley Park on Saturday with Galwegians earning the first half of a double over Buccaneers by 47-36. The Athlonians may feel that scoring 6 tries away from home should earn the spoils but the light blues went one better with seven!

Galwegians were quickest off the mark to take an early 12-0 lead before Abu Saka opened Buccs account when he picked and broke from the back of a scrum. Wegians replied with a try before Cameron Brill finished off a driving maul by the Pirates. Jack Crampton then finished off much improved play by the visitors to touchdown wide on the left to leave the teams deadlocked 19-19 at halftime.

Almost immediately following the change of ends Gearoid McDonald knifed through for a try and then Leon Cassidy capitalised on a strong Cathal Walsh carry for a 43rd minute try. This gave Buccaneers a 31-19 lead and seemingly in the driving seat but the home side responded with their fourth try. However, Brill had the strength to get over at the posts for his second try to leave the Pirates well placed but the city side replied with a brace of tries to edge ahead. Then in the final moments as Buccs chased a winning try, Galwegians hacked the ball downfield where the visitors cover dozed off and conceded a needless try that cost them a losing bonus point.
