GORDON BALLANTYNE
The sudden passing of past president Gordon Ballantyne has been received with great shock and immense sadness at the club. Gordon was a long-time supporter of the club, initially as Athlone RFC and subsequently as Buccaneers RFC for whom he was President in season 2018/19. Nice may be an old-fashioned word but Gordon was a genuinely nice person. Softly spoken and a true gentleman, he served in various roles on the club’s Executive Committee for a number of years. Heartfelt condolences are extended to his family and especial friend Kay. May he be granted eternal rest.
FUNERAL ARRANAGEMENTS
Reposing at Flynn’s Funeral Home, The Strand, Athlone, on Thursday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Requiem Mass in St. Mary’s Church, Athlone, on Friday at 10.30 a.m. followed by burial in Coosan Cemetary.
Club officers and members will form a Guard of Honour at St. Mary’s Church and the funeral cortege will pause at Dubarry Park.
