LORNA OUR FIRST‘FIRST LADY’
It was “with immense pride and gratitude” that Lorna Stuart-Trainor became first woman president of Buccaneers RFC. The rugby club has given her “so much over the years” and she now “wants to give something back”.
“Volunteerism is the heartbeat of this club and it is something we need to maintain and nurture across our membership. But we need to be careful not to over rely on the same people” and she asked for more people to volunteer. She thanked Buccs “players, coaches and supporters for their unwavering dedication and passion. Your energy is the lifeblood of the club”. The nature of sport is “its highs and lows” and for the coming season her wishes are that the club continues “to grow at Minis and Youths” and “lots of silverware and promotion for the senior squads”. Lorna thanked her predecessor Brendan Wilkins and the Executive Committee for their hard work over the past season”.
Lorna virtually grew up “on the side of a rugby pitch” with her father Owen serving in many roles at Buccaneers RFC, including as President in 1991/92, while mother Marla has been active on the club’s Ladies Committee while brother Tom played for many seasons with the Pirates. So there is a strong family connection to Buccaneers where Lorna was a founder member of the club’s Womens team and regularly coaches girls at the club and in local secondary schools. She has served in various roles over the years and is a driving force behind the successful Ladies Day/‘Prosecco by the Pitch’.
Recently engaged to Donal Herraghty and running her own successful award winning “A Room In Bloom” florist business, it looks like an extremely busy and exciting year ahead for Lorna. But she will be well up to the challenges, juggling everything, and all at Buccaneers RFC wish her the best of luck.
Carpe Diem.
