BUCCANEERS RFC
NEWSLETTER SUMMER 2025
Buccaneers RFC thanks all who supported the club throughout last season, be it in a voluntary role, sponsoring or generally supporting the Pirates. We look forward to seeing you all around the club again in the near future.
It seems last season has only just concluded, yet there is much work going on preparing for the upcoming one. Virtually all positions on the club’s committee have been filled already and work is going ahead full steam putting coaches and managers in place for our numerous teams from Minis all the way up to the First XV.
A new Coaching team is in place for Mens rugby with DARIN CLAASEN taking up the reins as Head Coach. He will be assisted by GARRETH HALLIGAN and CONOR KENNY with TOMMY CONLON managing the squad. Darin enjoyed tremendous success with our U-20 side guiding them to winning the Leinster Premier 2 Division title. Many of these young promising players will soon be striving to make an impact on the Firsts XV. Overall, the future looks particularly promising following the successes of our U-20, U-18.5 and U-17 teams with no less than 4 players capped by Ireland U-18s in 2024/25.
Meanwhile we are giving a serious push to re-establishing our Womens team this year too with KIERON SLOYAN appointed as Head Coach and AMY O’CONNOR managing this group.
We congratulate DARRAGH MURRAY when the richly promising young lock became the latest Buccaneers to win Ireland Senior caps.
Following our well-attended Community Work-In Day which tidied and freshened the club’s surrounds, our new President EOIN REID’s first official event was Buccaneers successful Annual Golf Classic at Glasson Lakehouse on WEDNESDAY, JULY 16th.
Summer Camp takes place at Dubarry Park for 6 to 12 year olds boys and girls with Buccs 5-day Camp from August 11th to 15th Meanwhile, American Football Ireland will again hosted their All-Ireland finals at the club on Saturday, July 19th.
Plans are well advanced to upgrade the dressing-rooms area, with work commencing there shortly, while PADEL courts and ice baths are also in the pipeline. Both should prove a wonderful addition to facilities at the club.
EOIN REID,
President.
