U-20’S FINISH LEAGUE WITH 100% WIN RATE
NUI GALWAY 13 BUCCANEERS 19
BUCCANEERS U-20’s maintained their 100% winning sequence when they completed the J.P.Fanagan Leinster League Premier 3 competition with a 19-13 victory over NUI Galway at Dangan on Sunday. The game itself in blistering sunshine was a typical Buccs 20’s performance of just doing enough to win while constantly entertaining their supporters with flashes of brilliance, the mark of true champions. After the match, the Dave Coughlan Cup was presented to Buccaneers captain Tom Shine by Karl O’Neill, Chairman of the Leinster Branch.
Prop Lasha Laoshvilli, the most experienced and reliable of Buccs players, got the game’s first try from a trade mark unstoppable pick and go. Mickey Byrne landed two conversions and scored a try while ‘Captain Fantastic’ Tom Shine showed all his box-to-box skills and pace as a former soccer player when he intercepted what looked like a certain College score to set up his own try by breaking the length of the pitch. Ben Daly came close to scoring with a fine break while up front props Cian Malone and Kieran Egan caused real problems for the Students’ defence as they made surging runs over the gainline. The game was still in the balance when Ruaidhri Fallon ended proceedings by kicking the match ball into the Corrib while the clock was in the red.
