SEAPOINT 24 BUCCANEERS 18
A last minute Seapoint try by Charles Blackmore denied Buccaneers U-20s making a winning start to the defence of their J.P.Fanagan Leinster Premier 2 League title when going down narrowly 24-18 at Kilboggett Park, Killiney, on Sunday.
Seapoint opened the scoring with a penalty to which Buccs replied with an Owen Egan try. Dan Doheny touched down for a second try by the Pirates and Kaylum Curran’s conversion gave them an encouraging 12-3 lead. But the Dubliners responded with converted tries either side of half-time to forge17-12 ahead.
A brace of penalties by substitute Jack Quinn edged Buccs ahead with time running out but they were unable to quell Seapoint’s challenge and the hosts last ditch converted try earned them a 24-18 victory. Buccaneers, who were missing some players due to injuries and involvement with the Senior squad, had to settle for a losing bonus point. But they showed fighting spirit and some fine decision making plus good kicking for position at halfback. Sean Glennon and Kailin Blessing made strong contributions.
