The Concannon Pharmacy sponsored Buccaneers U-14 Girls team continued their unbeaten trailblazing season with an emphatic 48-5 win over a strong Tuam/Oughterard side in Round 10 of Tier 1 Connacht U-14 League on the main pitch at Dubarry Park on Saturday.

This team has evolved over two seasons into one of the best side in Connacht and has benefitted from Club and Connacht initiatives to develop Girls Rugby in the Athlone Community College and Our Lady’s Bower.

The successs to date is based on full participation and top level coaching from Paul Fleming, Declan Brady and Tom O’Connor. The panel had full participation in the game and what was satisfying is how the new players seamlessly fitted into their roles and kept up the pace and pressure for a sparkling 60-minute performance with the centres running the show.

Next up are two away trips to Gort and then local rivals Ballinasloe before the real competition begins mid-February with the Connacht Cup where we are optimistic about getting to the newly named Dexcom Stadium at Galway Sportsground on Easter week.
