This is arguably the match of the weekend when Buccaneers U-20’s take on JP Fanagan Leinster League Premier 2 Division leaders St. Mary’s College at Dubarry Park on Sunday afternoon. Freescoring St. Mary’s are six points clear of the Pirates but the young Buccs have been steadily improving for the past number of fixtures and are now solidly in second place. They can be counted on to really put it up to the metropolitans in what should be a cracking contest, one well worthy of a big attendance.
Buccaneers J1’s will be bidding to put the disappointing Cup exit behind them when they host Castlebar in the Connacht Junior 1A League, also at Dubarry Park on Sunday. The Mayo side advanced to the Cup semi-finals at the expense of Corrib last Sunday and are sitting comfortably in mid-table. Buccs, conversely, are propping up this league and desperately need some wins. They will be encouraged by their 21-15 victory away to Castlebar early in the season.
Buccaneers J2’s face Connemara in the Connacht Junior 2 League with the action getting under way at 2.30 p.m. The Connacht website has this game down for Athlone but the teams have already met there this season so this match is surely scheduled for the Monastery Field in Clifden. Check our website for confirmation later in the week.
